The Pennsylvania Career Education and Work (CEW) Standards build in four check points Grade 3, Grade 5, Grade 8 and Grade 11 and what students should know be able to achieve across four areas:

− Career Awareness and preparation
− Career Acquisition
− Career Retention and Advancement
− Entrepreneurship

It is no secret that economic competitiveness requires a highly-skilled and competitive workforce but the ever-changing workplace and constant need for workers to think innovatively created the need for CEW standards.  The standards complement all academic disciplines and contain all skills that students must obtain in order to be successful in the workplace.  It is the purview of each district to implement these standards.

The Career Education and Work Standards supplement the knowledgebase that is provided in the everyday classroom with the specific skills that will make students employable and invaluable assets to an employer.  Through the districts unique application of the standards, the existing curricula will better prepare Pennsylvania’s future workforce.
